Solar Pergolas in Bocca di Magra / Ameglia (Italy)
In the municipality of Ameglia, at the point where the river Magra flows into the sea, three solar pergolas were erected during reconstruction of the promenade at the yachting harbour. Each of these pergolas consists of a thin metal structure onto which five semitransparent punch-hole thin-film modules with the special dimensions of
2.40 m x 0.30 m are mounted. The cabling runs through the hollow steel profiles of the supporting structure. Small LEDs in white and blue are integrated into the pergola frames and in the walls flanking the pergolas on the side of the road; at night they obtain their power from the electricity which is generated by the modules in the daytime and then stored in batteries. The batteries and switchgear cabinets are also integrated into the new ashlar masonry. The three pergolas have been painted in three shades of blue by the local communal authority and fit well with the maritime ambience.
The installation, erected in 2004, is equipped with an automatic data logging system that measures power generation and consumption and can be used to call up and check the data at any time.
